Artist Statement:
WILDLIFE
AND NATURE
I want to share the beauty,
that I see all around, with
the world.
I have a great awe and respect
for nature and the animals
found within it and wish to
convey that world with the
viewers in a way that puts
them into the painting, into
that world where nature
abounds. Not as a mere viewer
but as a part of it. What
greater joy is there than to
feel the vastness of nature
expand within your soul and
take you to places that you
not only enjoy with your
sight, but also with your
soul, and a place you can
visit time and again.

Portraits
With the portraits I not only
want to achieve an accurate
likeness, but also a deeper
look into the person(s). I use
the setting as much as the
person to create context that
will narrate the story and
feel of the painting, to
entice the viewer to look
within themselves as well as
outwardly, to make a
connection, instead of simply
looking at a pretty picture.
It's this deep intimacy that
resonates though the portraits
and allows one to truly feel
the depth of human frailty
as...

Your Personal Biography R. W. Hinshaw

In love with life and nature, Rusty strives to capture the very essence of what makes life the wonder it truly is. Born in the small town of Dowagiac, MI, Rusty has always had a love for the great outdoors, in all its seasons. Completely self taught, Rusty endeavours to capture the spirit of the land as well as the animals he portrays, in a manner that welcomes the viewer to step inside and become part of that beauty.

Always striving for perfection, his love and dedication can be seen in every drawing that bears his name. Perhaps most easily seen in his wildlife drawings, Rusty’s love for the nature comes through in no uncertain terms. With a steady hand, and a gentle touch, life seems to be breathed into the paper itself. “When I first start a drawing, I can tell from the very first line if it’s going to be a great one. It’s almost like it speaks to me somehow. I can’t explain it, I just feel it, and I know it’s going to be good.”

In 1996 Rusty made a decision to follow his passion for art at any cost. With this decision, he threw himself into developing his art with everything he had. It was at this time also that he made a pivotal move in his art and started focusing on the art of portraiture.
'I paint wildlife and nature, because I love them, and am amazed at their beauty, I paint portraits because of the unique challenges they offer, and they too, I have grown to love.'

“One thing I’ve come to realize is a part of me goes into every painting I do. And if I’m going to leave a part of me with it, I want it to be the very best I can do.”
