Artist Statement:
I use the images of passageways such as doors, windows, and ladders, to evoke transitions and journeys in life. The empty spaces defined by these passageways represent different “places” or “moments.” Copper is the medium that I prefer to work in as it changes texture and color dramatically with time. In most of my pieces, the evidence of the processes involved in their creation are left intact, no polishing or grinding down of the surfaces or solder. They remain raw. Other pieces have parts that have been polished. This is in keeping with the themes of change, progress and refinement, chaos and order. The pieces tell different stories depending on the viewer and the place. There is one theme that runs throughout: no matter how hard and difficult times may be, there is always hope, a way out, even victory....
