ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am interested in jewelry’s potential as an object of personal meaning and communication. In my work I utilize images with symbolic connections that are both obvious and obscure. The power of color to influence one’s state of mind or health is especially meaningful to me.
Glass (and enamel, which is glass on metal) is the perfect medium for a jeweler who loves color. It provides me with a means of completing the expression of my work through the interplay, complexity and subtlety of an unlimited palette.
Nature's wild excess has provided the inspiration for my newest jewelry creations, lampwork glass bead bangles. I have attempted to reproduce the color and patterns found in tropical reefs, sunsets, gardens, etc. - to provide a wearable memory of a wonderful place and time.
An ongoing series of small enameled sculptures consists of small "offering" bowls on stands. The themes are seasonal and botanical in nature. "Summer Solace" has a companion sculpture, "Out of the Ashes". Displayed together, these two are a comment on events of the past year.
