Artist Statement:
It is easy to overlook the
variety of life surrounding
us. Painting my favorite
subjects of animals and
landscapes is an invaluable
connection to the natural
world. Watching or working
with animals evokes a sense of
wonder about each one’s
thoughts, feelings and
memories. There is a mystery
in these questions. Most have

the space it occupies. My
approach to color is
influenced by Impressionism,
Color Field Painting as well
as Matisse and Wolf Kahn.
Their work brings me awareness
of how color stimulates
viewers on a physical level.

Throughout my life, I had the
opportunity to know many kinds
of animals through riding
horses and owning a variety of
pets. These animals revealed
unique intelligences and
characters. I developed a
special appreciation for hoses
over the ten years I was ...
