Artist Statement:
My content is geometric, abstract and colourist. Although I’ve lived in Vancouver since 1983, I grew up in Toronto where I became aware of painters like Ad Reinhardt, Jack Bush, Mark Rothko, Morris Louis, Kenneth Noland, Sonia Delaunay, Arshile Gorky, Piet Mondrian, Barnett Newman and non-abstract painters like Henri Matisse, Paterson Ewan, Francis Bacon and R.B. Kitaj. In the late-1970’s I came to know the work of the Neo-Expressionist and TransAvantGarde painters like Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Francesco Clemente and Enzo Cucchi. I consider all of these artists to have a strong metaphysical content and I resonate with this kind of primal expression in all art forms, especially painting. Similarly, I hope that my paintings convey mystery, mysticism and the metaphysical....

| Your Personal Biography |
James K-M is an artist, curator, interface designer and educator. Since 1995 he has taught courses in media literacy, Macromedia Director, Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro at the Vancouver Film School, the Centre for Digital Imaging and Sound, and at Langara College.
In 1994 he created Restless Machines: Noise and Industrial Culture, a CD-ROM tracing the history of noise and industrial music from the Futurists at the beginning of the 20th century to Skinny Puppy in the 1990?s. With his Interactive Paintings created in Director, he was nominated Digital Artist of the Year in 1997 by Bravo TV. His recent DVD-ROM, Electric Living in Canada explores digital media language and environment, through interviews with over 90 digital artists and media theorists, both Canadian and international.
Since 2001 he has curated five exhibitions of digital print and is co-founder of the Digitalis Digital Art Society (http://ddas.wordpress.com/) formed to promote digital print and digital art language in Vancouver and worldwide.
He has been exhibiting paintings, digital prints and interactive art internationally since 1978 and has recently returned to painting full time. His recent paintings and exhibitions can be seen at:
