Artist Statement:
My work is inspired by the
natural world - the rich
colors of the land, the play
of light on water, and the
varied plantlife that
surrounds us.
This work is created using
beeswax with pigment (also
known as encaustic) on
translucent rice paper. The
paper when completely
saturated with wax becomes
translucent creating a
luminous, ethereal quality. I
enjoy working with wax because
it is constantly flowing and
changing, imitating nature in
its operation. Many of the
colors you see are the result
of seeing one color through
another. As the light
surrounding the painting
changes throughout the day,
the painting will change as
well. I think this constant
change is a beautiful metaphor
for life....

| Your Personal Biography |
Jane Goethel Guthridge lives in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. She was educated at Kent State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She continued her studies with Armin Hoffman and Paul Rand in Brissago, Switzerland. She later attended the Art Students League of Denver. She has been included in many group and solo exhibitions and has received numerous awards. She was recently honored as the “2008 Artist of Recognition” by the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. Her encaustic work was selected for the Second Annual Encaustic Invitational. She represented the United States in “The International Biennale of Contemporary Art” in Florence, Italy in 2003 and 2005. She was also selected to exhibit in M.I.A.D Venado Tuerto in Argentina, and the books “American Art Collector” and “Arte Euroamericano”. Her work is contained in the collections of Charles Schwab, Colorado State Bank and Trust, First Community Bank, First National Bank of Colorado, Kaiser Permanente, Morgan-Charles, Peak Public Relations, Ritz Carlton Hotels, and Sigler Communications. |
