Judith DARMONT
«If one had to find her an ancestry, one could
think she is the artist Tamara Lempicka’s
granddaughter and the daughter of a MacIntosh, a
computer inventor», (Pierrick Alain, Telerama).
Judith Darmont was born in Grenoble (France) in
1968 and exhibited her early paintings for the first
time in Lyon, in 1987. She has always been fond
of pictures and her passion led her to Jerusalem
for two years, where she made sets for TV.
In 1990, she settled down in Paris where she met a software developer
who asked her to test the prototype of a digital imaging software.
Within a few hours she had made her first digital painting.
« I was so fascinated by the new possibilities of this tool ! A few
weeks later, I bought my first computer. »
The speed of the tools led her to a new field, suitable for
experimentation and research. Judith is going to adapt her style so that
her digital paintings are a reflection of what is current.
As early as 1991, her works were noticed at the first computer
graphics international meeting at the Modern Art Museum Centre Georges
Pompidou, Paris.
From still images to moving images
Multimedia becomes more and more necessary with CDRoms ; Judith
makes graphical interfaces, her first animation and becomes an author,
-The Ghetto of Warsaw, Montparnasse Multimedia ed.). She takes part in
exhibitions and festivals : Apple Graphic Studio, Art 3000, @rtoutsiders, Ecole
Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris and the press acclaimed her too.
A multimedia band
In 1994, Judith met the musician Raphael Elig. They set up Echosystem
–http://www.echosystem.com-, a multimedia band : they mix electro music
and digital images.
First steps to a new style, first multimedia live experiences with
european festivals, (Factory@Paris, Sonar@Barcelona, Milia Festival@Cannes),
events, venues & clubs.
The video production takes part in Judith’s creation, digital researches
and experiments.
Video as videoart
In the 2000s, Vjing & video arts’ trend came out :
Judith was welcomed at the Olympia Hall, for the Djtal Party by Apple, (iPod French
official launch private party, June 2001), where she mixed her videos with the
works of the most famous DJ of the French Touch : Bob Sinclar, Dimitri from
Paris, DJ Deep, DJ Gregory.
She started to work more and more to commission and addresses private
events in France and abroad. Teaching, taking part in studios or in common
works started to punctuate her life.
A meeting with Johanna Saint-Pierre strengthened her taste for music and
image mix : she made videos and took part in Onze Bouge Festival with the
Electro Pop Picture Show (Cithea, May 2003, Paris).
In October 2003, Emilie Simon gave her a free hand to perform on her own
as a first part, (La Cigale, Paris).
Translate
In spring 2003, Judith met Michel Benita, a well established jazz counterbass
player.
Together, they set up the « translate » band : their watchwords are jam
session and investigation.
Michel Benita’s music, that mixes his bass sound with samples and loops,
makes Judith’s graphical world vibrating. This melting is revealed through music
and image interactive mix, in a visual and electro jazz world.
A « true lab with two heads » who finds their inspirations in their very first
concerts :
Bee-Flat in Bern, Switzerland, Batofar and New Morning in Paris, Vienna Jazz
Festival, France, Montreal Jazz Festival Canada, Nice Jazz Festival...
ADAMI’s 2004 Talent Jazz award, electro jazz category.
VISUAL IDOLS
you see what you hear and hear what you see
In 2006, Judith met Alex, Laurent & Nano, alias Mode-F, 3 sound engineers
and well-respected sound illustrators, mostly working for fashion shows, events.
They created & launched a new concept: Live interaction of videos created by
Judith DARMONT with worldwide music hits remixed by MODE-F.
It's the perfect combination of strong, energetic, and eclectic music design with
a dynamic, sensual, and uplifting visual atmosphere.
VISUAL IDOLS provides two hours worth of pristine sound and motion-pictures
to bring the ultimate party experience to the dance floor.

DIDIER AWADI, Presidents d’Afrique

Presidents d’Afrique, a projet dedicated to Africas’ memories and glorious presidents & men who
led the continent to freedoom & equity.
Arty videoclips are mixed up, live on stage, for 1h30, with traditional, pop, rock, reggae sounds,
musicians, dancers, & orignal speeches from Martin Luther King, Aimé Césaire... still on tour…

video-art.

Darmont (VideoKeyboard) trigger simultaneous music, photo and video. With their
innovative digital instruments they improvise in a next generation invention.
