| Your Personal Biography |
Working with gemstones, pearls, gold, platinum & sterling... I've been awarded with an Alpha Award by Fashion Group International. Most recently, in addition to operating an online boutique - www.jennsjewels.com / www.jenniferdewey.com - I have worked as the in-house jeweler for Dolce Jewels in Telluride, gallery director for Tony Newlin's Wilderness Wonders Gallery and service the town with repairs and custom designs.
The opportunity to study jewelry design and metalsmithing appeared several years after finishing a B.A. in Communications at Ripon College in WI. My education initially led me to Chicago, where I pursued a career in p.r. and non-profit event planning. Yet the architecture and mystique of New Orleans called me in 1992 and this is where I discovered my passion for metalsmithing. I was very fortunate to apprentice and work under artists Merry Pierce Lowrey, Thomas Mann (Techno-Romantic Jewelry) and Margo Manning... before venturing out with my own designs.
Today I live and work in beautiful South Western Colorado, where I continue to develop my metalsmithing skills and have worked with several metalsmiths and fine jewelry designers. My upbringing in Madison, Wisconsin and artistic experiences in New Orleans continue to influence my art... while the majestic San Juan Mountains provide me with a sense of being one with nature. Organic form, multi-cultural motifs and symbolism seem to be the common thread in my jewelry designs. As always, it is my hope to create art pieces which inspire and empower... talismans for planetary healing and wearable art which communicates messages of unity, preservation of nature and harmony.
