Artist Statement for L Diane Johnson

FOR YEARS I have enjoyed many subjects in my studio. In the last several years however, the focus of my work has been to capture the pure landscape "en plein air". As I've painted and taught in Claude Monet's garden in the village Giverny, France, in the U.S. and Europe, the experience has been nothing short of profound. The landscape comes alive, as I work to capture the light that redefines the scenes before me. I realize now why Monet painted his garden for 40 years and could not exhaust it's enduring beauty. I am even more filled with the wonder of what God has created around me. It is to him my art is dedicated, with parents and husband whose supportive contributions have made it possible for me to be a painter for life.
