Artist Statement:
the main feature of my work whether or it is figurative or landscape is always, light. The play of light on any subject changes the mood of the work and how the viewer percieves the narrative contained within the work.
I love oils and will build up colours and layers to increase the atmosphere to try to bring the viewer into the work and interpret it in thier own way....

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
My biggest artistic inspiration is every time I walk into another gallery and see the variety of work and the talent that produces them inspires me to do better every time. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I have always loved painting but it was only out of desperation that I fuinally started to work as an artist when the company I worked with for 11 years closed the door in my face and left me in the street without a penny. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Born in Rotten Row Glasgow in Glasgow when the west Coast of Scotland still had an industrial base. This meant spending a childhood surrounded by people working in industry and that gives a very solid grounding for life.
You tend to look at things in a very definite way, black is black etc.
This attitude is carried into art when you are told things have to be portrayed in a very definite way you are discouraged from looking at art in an any way that might be unrealistic and it was only when I broke away from this line of thinking that my work started to take on a life of its own.
After being made redundant at I decided I had had enough of doing the right thing and contacted Galleries with the intention that they take some of my work. That was in August 2003 and I now have galleries across the West of Scotland, England and Spain.
I have always been enthusiastic about experimenting with different mediums, creating images rather than just representing what I see even though realism was a starting point, I believe you have to evolve as a painter otherwise you stagnate.
The never ending quest to improve and to capture something more on canvas than a pleasing scene is the powerful driving force that keeps my work evolving. |
