| Your Personal Biography |
Born and raised in northern Connecticut, I was an only child and grew up on our family tobacco farm. Most of my youth was spent wandering around the forests and fields that surrounded me or hovering over a sketch book in my room. I've always loved people and my friends wouldn't call me shy, but there is a hermit element to my personality - I like retreating to my cave to let my imagination run wild...
I studied art at the University of New Hampshire and also did an exchange semester at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Being on the west coast opened me up to painting more abstractly, and when I graduated from UNH in 1999, I officially broke away from the contemporary figure paintings I was making to focus on abstract expressionism. Painting without a formal subject - going within, letting go, and seeing what happens.
My style has evolved through the years, and the figures have worked their way back into my work, but in a stylized interpretation of people. Born in my mind, once again, not from any real subject sitting in front of me.
I've had a lot of fun through the years showing in various galleries and exhibits, but I love selling online most of all. It gives me the ability to connect directly with the buyer, develop a relationship with them, and greater understand what viewers are seeing/feeling in my work (rather than hovering behind guests of an exhibit to hear what they say about your painting!).
