Apryl Miller - Mentor

Why Did You Become An Artist I was working in a hospital as a Radiological Transcriptionist and looking to go back to school to become a Paramedic when I got sick with CNS Vasculitis. I e-mailed an artist (Apryl Miller) that I saw on HGTV and shared my decorating, etc...with her. She encouraged me to go into doing more art to share with others. I also became disabled due to this illness but now I believe that God has enabled me to volunteer, be an artist, and write, too.

Your Personal Biography I started crafting when I was just a small child. At 10 my Grandfather purchased a string art from me for $10. and told me that good art should be paid for. I'll never forget that!

I continued on and ventured in various types of needlework (even creating several of my own designs), and about any type of craft I could find. After I got out of the house I channeled my creativity mostly into decorating and then eventually the faux painting techniques. I'm as at home with a power tool as with a can opener, too. I love working with tools to facilitate parts of my projects. I also fully re-interior decorated 2 houses with that knowledge.

In 2001 I became ill and was no longer able to work. I shared some of my work with an artist friend in NY, NY who became my mentor and encouraged me to get out there (so to speak) and start putting some of my things up for sale. (I had already sold several things but at a garage sale while deciding to make a move to Florida). So, I ended up selling a few things on E-Bay. We moved from Ohio to Florida in 2005 and I've continued to sell here and there. Was also in my first exhibit in Bradenton, FL in 2006. I decided to start selling on Etsy mostly due to the gas prices. The world says I am disabled but I believe God enabled me. I also enjoy volunteer work through my church and with jail/prison ministry where I teach parenting to women inmates.

I also write and published my first book 'Beyond To Better Things' by Tricia Marie (my pen name) which was released 12/20/2008.
