Artist Statement:
All of my artwork is depicting
light and shadow at extreme's,
through intense color and high
contrast. My subject matter
come's from different places
within myself and my
interactions with the world
and nature. I love to paint
portraits, so you will find
faces from the past as well as
people who are in my life now.
Recently, I have been
abstracting portraits of
animals, with the idea to
render animal spirits. My
animal spirits live within a
memory landscape. Here my
memory landscape is not
painted from reality, but from
my imagination and usually use
a palatte knife to attain the
surreal surface. Many times
in these memory landscapes I
will have stencils of my hand
prints, these are a symbol of
prayers. I chose to paint
animals in nature to show my
concern for the environment.
Human's impact on this earth
is causing catastrophic
change. The animals are
feeling these changes first,
we need to see this extinction
and realize that this is our
fate too, if we don't change.
My goal is for my compositions
to jump out at the viewer,
with the eyes of the spirit
animals telling you to pay
attention....
