Artist Statement:
Light casts its spell. Sunlight on the marshes, candlelight on the face of a child, the play of light through a stained glass window all hold inspiration for me. My goal as an artist is to invite the viewer to share my discoveries of light and its properties. Emotional responses to light come to us naturally, and emotion is a part of my art as well. Peaceful landscapes or stormy seas draw the viewer into echoes from their own experience. Plays of color throughout my works challenge the viewing participant to engage in my world.

| Your Personal Biography |
Karen Burnette Garner is a native of Georgia and has painted professionally since 1983. Without formal training, her desire to learn led her to mentor John Baden-Nuttall, an English art master and world traveler, and for three years she studied the creation and business of art. She attended workshops with well-known artists Gerald Brommer, Marilyn Huey Phillis and the late Al Brouillette. After almost 30 years as a professional artist, she has developed her own style and life philosophy, incorporating an appreciation for beauty, creativity, and inspiration into daily living.
As a child, Ms. Garner grew up visiting the lowcountry and has been held under its spell ever since. She has produced a large body of works reflecting the lowcountry surrounding Charleston, SC, and her work continues to be avidly collected by art lovers as a result.
Works by Karen Burnette Garner are included in collections worldwide. Collectors include AT&T, Wachovia, Thomas and Hutton Engineering (Myrtle Beach), Chateau Elan Winery, Holston Valley Hospital, University of Georgia, the Gwinnett Council for the Arts, and Mr. Larry “Chipper” Jones of the Atlanta Braves. She is also an award-winning poet and published illustrator.
