Artist Statement:

What I am trying to do with my
work is create a visual
language. I take large
universal concepts, words like
love, abstract words, and
deconstruct them into simple
individual components. I use
abstract interpretation to
break down meaning into many
various interpretations of the
same word or concept. Once
various canvases and films are
completed, the work leads me
to discover a deeper
understanding of what those
words can mean and, a new way
of communicating them.

Often when working with
universal concepts, abstract
words, thoughts, and, breaking
them down into individual
meanings, I come across words,
meaning, where breaking down
their meaning is beyond
research and individual
understanding, so working with
video pulling in other people
into the process is
essential.Visual language has
become an area of profound
research in the last twenty to
thirty years. People like
Robert Horn and Edward Tufte
have written, visualized,
researched what that form of
communicating looks like and
can be developed into. Robert
Horn defines visual language
“as the tight integration of
words and visual elements and
as having characteristics that
distinguish it from natural
languages as a separate
communication tool.”

Visual language has become an
area of profound research...
