Artist Statement:
Karen Tenni is an innovative photographer born and raised in Cairns (Qld). and completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts (honours), specialising in Photography, at the University of South Australia School of Art.
Interested in a variety of photographic methods and styles, several re-occurring themes occour in her work - domesticity, femininity, architectural and abstract. Karen is also involved in facilitating practical workshops and curating fine art exhibitions.
Karen has exhibited her work throughout Adelaide and South Australia, including SEAS Gallery (Adelaide), Zest Café Gallery (Glenelg), South Coast Regional Arts Centre (Goolwa, SA) and selected for the 2003 Helpman Grad Show. Since 1999, Karen has also received several awards, including equal runner up in 2004 Not Only Black + White/ M-one11 Student Photography Competition, and was an Artist-in-residence for 2 years at the Parks Art Studios in Adelaide.
Living in regional Queensland, Karen is pursuing her fine art photography practice, and exploring portraiture and landscape genres in addition to her re-occurring themes....

Projects
2007 Project manager/artist for photographic seats stage of Parks Helix Project Walking trail. Coordination, research, consultation, design, artistic elements.
2006, 2007, 2008 Commissioned photographer for the Celtica Festival and Art in the Hart fair, Port Adelaide.
2006/7 '100 years 100 stories' - artist/coordinator for community centenary quilt making project. Community consultation and research, image transfer techniques, artistic development.
2006/7 Youth group digital photography workshops. Series of skill building sessions with Semaphore youth group, with outcomes including exhibition and inclusion of images with centenary quilt project.
2006 facilitation of digital photography workshop series plus development of multi media educational reference for Cottage Kitchen Port Adelaide (People Promoting Mental Health), culminating in a gallery exhibition of photographs created by participants.
2006 'Real Women' Dance/photography Project with Barossa Leisure Options/Health Service. Supporting women to feel confidence in their bodies with dance/movement workshops, and culminating in an exhibition of black and white photographic portraits of participants. Included mentoring young emerging photographer and hand-printing photographs.
2004 - 2007 ongoing coordinator/artist role with 3 year project The Parks Helix Project with The Parenting Network/Parks Childrens House - photography workshops, computer based skills, production of pet safety posters and personalised calendars, co-ordination of art based group activities, community consultation for playground, mural, silhouette and mosaic design, and nurturing fledgling community group.
2005 The Parenting Network Twig book projects - computer and photography skills based workshops for book based on being an indigenous mother and personalised individual children's book production.
2005/6 Parks Artist-in-residence - workshop tutor - 'seeing photographically', darkroom 'photograms', cyanotypes (blueprints) for adults and children.
2005 workshop facilitation at Port Adelaide 'seeing photographically' and 'gallery presentation'
2003 Guest artist at Gilles Plains Primary School to facilitate photography introduction and workshop with years 5, 6, 7.
2006 Curator of 'wise loaf…humblest crumb', past and present artists-in-residence, Axis Gallery, Adelaide Fringe Festival 2006. Ongoing curation to travel exhibition to Shedley Complex in Elizabeth (Sept 2006) and other venues.
