Artist Reviews:
This month we are highlighting
the work of young artist Laura
Kearney alongside our gallery
regulars. Laura's elegant
figurative paintings catch
intimate detail - the sheen of
silk, lightfall and shade on
skin, the texture of hair -
observations that elude camera
portraits. Her paintings
celebrate allure, poise and
attraction yet ...

Biggest Artistic Inspiration My biggest artistic inspiration is that of Gerard Burns. I have had the privilage to work and train along side him, he is a very charismatic and brilliant artist. I love the way he uses such loose brush strokes to create fine detail.

Why Did You Become An Artist Its something I have always been able to do, I was never much of an academic so I decided to follow that which came natural to me. I was always told throughout my life that I escape into my own dream world and so painting enables me to bring that world to life.

Your Personal Biography Born and educated in Glasgow were I obtained an HND in digital art & design graduating in June 2000. I fell away from all things creative having a break from the art world to pursue many different career paths.

The years passed while grinding through many a hard sales job, it soon became apparent that I should return (not to graphic design) but to getting the old paint brushes back out to play.

In 2007 I was fortunate to visit the studio of Gerard Burns to watch all the magic happen live before my eyes. It stirred up once again the excitement of what a few marks placed on a canvas can create. As Gerard's paintings were becoming high demand he needed a studio assistant and granted me an old fashioned apprenticeship with him. In the last three years of working under Gerard he has improved my painting skills giving me the opportunity to exhibit my very own work alongside his at many different art shows.

In the short time of exhibiting I’ve had great success with continuous sell outs at many annual art shows. This has caused me to work not only as a full time apprentice for Gerard but causes me to spend most evenings creating my own work.
