Artist Statement:
Elements that I consider essential to excellent visuals are composition, lighting, color and texture. Another element which is essential in depicting life is the decisive moment - whether it’s a child’s expression or the height of action in a sports photo.
These elements are important in my images. In addition, I look for simplicity in composition to convey an idea, a mood, or an action. Simplicity enables the artist to communicate more effectively .
Although the range of my subject matter is extensive, the graphic elements within my photographs unite them as one body of work....

| Your Personal Biography |
Karen I. Hirsch is dedicated to artistry in imagery. Her graphic images are characterized by great use of color and light. Her ability to capture the "decisive moment" is evident in her sports photos and her images which include movement and human expression.
Hirsch's images have garnered numerous awards including Grand Prize in the Kodak Daily News competition and Grand Prize in the Fuji/ASMP photo competition. They have been showcased in Communication Arts and Graphis Photo Annuals. Her photos have been published in books, magazines, newspapers and calendars.
In addition to documenting with her camera, Karen uses her computer to create digital interpretations of her images.
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs awarded Karen two grants in photography and the Illinois Arts Council also gave her a grant for her 25 year retrospecive one-woman photo exhibit, "My Chicago, " which featured more than 200 images.
The Karen I. Hirsch extensive library of images includes photos of Chicago, U.S. travel, sailing, Italy and France, nature, architecture and abstracts.
Hirsch's fine art photos are collected by individuals and corporations.
