Artist Statement for Kevin Larson

Although my work varies from abstracts to portraits to animals and beyond, many often categorized my works of art as being “erotic” in nature as I present the human form without the flourishes of fashion or carefully poised draperies. Instead, my figurative works glorify the human form without exception or apology as it is the beauty of the nude figure that most inspires me. Eroticism is an emotion of the senses and in order for that emotion to be present, the work must capture the lust, passion and desire that fuels our sexuality. It is our brain that is our most erogenous organ and it is that alone that differentiates what is erotic, obscene or commonplace.

The main focus of my work is to portray an emotion to its audience. Sensuality, sexuality, spirituality and the psychological or physiological entrapments of being human often collide and meld together in my artistic creations. The controversial and critically acclaimed “Saint Series” is perhaps my most accomplished collection and a prime example of this collaboration.

I must admit that there are times when the work does not emit from my hands. It is something that flows through me and I am merely the vessel to translate the image onto canvas. Additionally, music plays a large role in my creative process. Often are the times when a single song or two capture what it is I wish to put on canvas and these songs will play repeatedly, over and over and day after day as I create and I believe it is this collaborative effort that elevates my work to a higher level that I would not otherwise achieve.
