Artist Statement:
I look for links, clues and
connections between the
visible and the invisible
worlds and seek to find the
inspiring, poetic or
philosophical thought that may
be suggested by an aspect of a
landscape, a person, wildlife
or cityscape.
I work from sketches or photos
that I collect in travels or
personal situations. I always
paint in a state of deep
relaxation as I try to let the
subconscious take over.
Usually the canvas ends up a
compsite of different
sketches, and therefore
becomes a unique glimpse of
something that was not there,
but is. The idea represented
within the painting then
becomes clear.
While I believe in the power
of a representational image,
for such images can evoke
powerful emotions, I also am
intellectual enough to seek
meanings beyond the physical
that might relate to our
lives, very much in the
tradition of ancient chinese
philosophers when they
contemplated nature.
