Artist Statement:
Laura den Hertog is a figure
painter living in Montreal,
Canada where she studied
commercial arts at Dawson
College. She began painting
professionally at the turn of
this century, but draws
inspiration and techniques
from preceding centuries.
Laura is represented in the
New England area by The Banks
Gallery of Portsmouth, New
Hampshire. She has
participated in group shows in
Montreal Canada, Lake Placid
New York, and London England.
Her paintings can be found in
collections throughout North
America and Europe.

Artist’s Statement:
As a representational
figurative artist, I am
currently exploring pastimes
and activities that are
enduring and universal. I
clothe my models in timeless
garments to reflect the
unchanging nature of human
experience. I strive to depict
familiar moments though
mannerisms, surroundings and
mood.
In order to tangibly portray
the scenes and people that are
my subjects, I needed to build
on my drawing ability, and so
I have studied and employ the
classical oil painting
techniques of the old masters.
My work had been influenced by
my Dutch heritage through
images and museums I was
introduced to as a youth.
