Artist Statement:
This is somthing I wrote about
art and what it means to me.
It's called "The Dare"

Art, tis not oil meeting
canvas,
nor verse lilting to ones
ear,
It is not water but tinted
flowing gently across paper,

Or notes plucked from strings,

floating through the air,
It is not marble hewn by hand,

or clay, fresh from the
kiln,
Metal, oblong, square,
hanging here and there,
Nor is the intertwining of
two,
their appearance of floating
and more,
Or time frozen with a flash,
enlarged in the future,

Art... Is but the soul made
tangible,
a mere glimpse,
expression layed bare,
Bindings questionably
broken...
Lines irraversably
crossed....
Truths boldly told...
Artist's...
Do You Dare.......

Biggest Artistic Inspiration To be quite honest I've never really searched out art. I can appreciate talent and expression. But until just recently I never gave it a second thought. Now that I have started drawing it's like I'm seeing the world through a whole new set of eye's. Everything is contrast, tint, shade, shadow. This new found look at my world and how i can relate to it is my biggest inspiration.

Why Did You Become An Artist not provided

Your Personal Biography Im almost 41 years old and had no idea that I had any artistic talent until a little over 2 years ago. Unless you call stick figures on your Pee-Chee folder art. Maybe some would. Anyway, I was introduced to art in a sordof freeform art class that I had entered to pursue a new found writing interest. My seat was right next to the teachers and i would hear his explanations and watch his technics that he would provide for the new artist's in his class. During that time i came across a picture of a girl playing a guitar with a cat on her knee that caught my eye. I told my teacher that I wanted to draw her and with his encouragement I set off down this road. I ended up blown away, excited, and could not believe what the result was. My teachers comment to me was that surely this was not my first drawing. But it was, though surely not my last.
I started with a copy of the picture and put a set of grid lines on it and then the same but larger grid went onto my drawing paper. I found that if all I worried about was that one square that I was woking on I would not get overwelmed. So One square At A time. Also I did not use drawing pencils to draw the picture, except for a standard no. 2 pencil with which I litely drew the out line, everything else was done with shaders. My teacher had come up with an inexpensive way to provide them to us. We would use drawing paper rolled into cones and then ruff up the tip with a pummis stone. I would then put the graphite from a 6b on a seperate piece of paper and then pick it up with my shader and use that to draw.
He did not expect that we would draw the whole picture this way but I find that it gives more demension, ther are no lines, everything blends.
I've since moved on to using charcoal pencils, with the same technic, and am thouroughly enjoying the results.
Well hope that you enjoy and i surely would like any kind of feed back and or suggestions.
Thank you.
