Artist Statement:
The painting as well as the
art in general, in addition to
creation, is also the
sacrificed fruit of the work
of the ancestors, illuminated
men that they learned of their
predecessors.
Under the influence of the
teachers of the Renaissance
and Baroque, I proposed
conjugate in a balance, a
personal and contemporary
work, with a purely
traditional method, mystical
technique, almost alchemic.
That I try to execute with the
most honest way possible… and
is that sometimes the
illumination, also is
accompanied by the knowledge.
The series of drawings of 2008
in mixed technique “The Demons
of a Western Man”, is a route
somewhat oneiric, and almost
paranoiac of the great ideas,
fears (demons), that have
accompanied the mind and
history of the Western man.
That man able to change his
ideas, world, own opinion and
able to generate its evils in
a very short period of its
existence like civilization.

Alexander Leal Cid was born in Havana (Cuba) in 1974
Began his first studies of painting,drawing and engraved on the Vocational School of Arts. continued his study in painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts 'San Alejandro' after graduating he worked as a restorer of paintings at the “National Center of Restoration of Cuba” and as an illustrator for the “Cuban Book Institute”.
In 1997 is devoted entirely to painting and preparing exhibitions in major galleries of Havana (Convent of St. Francisco de Assis, Acacia gallery, gallery Luz y Oficio).
Obtained in 1997 painting prize at the “XI Hall the City'.
In 1999 through an influential art collector traveled to Europe, and currently lives in Spain. From that year until 2009 Participates in exhibitions in different rooms and galleries of Barcelona and other cities in Spain (Sala Almirall, gallery Beaskoa, Fundation Caixa Penedés, Fivárs gallery, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi)
In 2008 'The Contemporary Art Collection of the Chateau Des Reaux' (France) bought two of his works and also in 2008 was selected twice for the realist painter Antonio Lopez for his workshops at the Complutense University of Madrid and the School of Architecture University of Navarra.
In 2009, his work appears in the “Encyclopedic Dictionary of Modern and Contemporary Art”, published by the 'casa editrice alba' ferrara, Italy.
And in april of 2009 he has an exhibition on Gallerie Icosahedron in New York.
Today is devoted to painting in his workshop in Lloret de Mar near Barcelona and part of his work is in private collections in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France
