Artist Statement:
Legassi Brumbaugh has lived in the Austin area most of her life. Her artwork is inspired by African American history, culture and heritage. While her earlier works featured strong representational graphite and charcoal drawings, her latest works are more of a loose abstraction of form in a sea of color. A majority of her works are with watercolor and charcoal. Legassi also uses egg tempera, graphite and oil. Her influences are the late Dr. John T. Biggers and Paul Goodnight....

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
I've had many artistic inspiration in my life before I finally became brave enough to call myself an artist. My mother and mother-in-law both inspired me to have confidence to take my art seriously. My mentor and art teacher allowed me to discover and accept my personal style. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Legassi Brumbaugh picked up the pencil in the summer of 1999 after much encouragement of her mother-in-law who was an award-winning watercolorist in the Northwest. Pencil and paper was the only art supplies she could afford and her teachers were literally the blank page and desire. She began painting in 2002 after she was taken under the wing of her current mentor who is an award-winning watercolorist in Central Texas.
Legassi is married with 3 children and a grandchild on the way. |
