Vladimir Levestam’s bio
Vladimir Levestam was born on 1 April 1954 in Yalta on the Black Sea coast – site of the famous Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin summit of World War II. He became interested in art while studying theoretical physics first in Moscow State University and then Simferopol State University.
After his studies, Levestam worked as a designer for the Botanical Gardens in Yalta. There he became deeply involved in conceptual art, namely abstract and mechanical sculpture. Wood became his favorite medium.
In 1985, Levestam received a Master of Decorative Arts degree from the Ukraine Artists’ Union.
In 1987, he exhibited his sculpture in Moscow at the Central Exposition Center. Since then, Levestam exhibited his works in Ukraine, Russia and throughout the Baltic countries. In 1989, he participated in the Volga River Trip with Japanese and American artists from the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston.
In June of 1991, Levestam’s works were exhibited in three Boston area galleries: the Sohy Gallery in Boston, Gallery Nature and Temptation of the Kaji Aso Studio, and Art Intentions in Norwell; he also participated in the Art Festival in the South Shore Artists Center in Cohasset. Many of Levestam’s works belong to private collections in the United States, Japan, Germany, France and the Former Soviet Union.
In July 2006, Levestam’s jewellery collection were exhibited in Ashland Hardwood Gallery
in Ashland, United States and Pilar Shephard Art Gallery in Charlottetown, Canada.
In July 2007, Levestam’s jewellery collection were exhibited in “Russian Dorset” Art Exhibition in Strangways Village Hall, Abbotsbury, Dorset, United Kingdom.

Since 1991, Levestam invested all his time and effort to create a successful fashion accessories company, the Loewestamm Wooden Jewelry. Its web site can be found at http://woodenjewellery.com . The site features exuberant Bohochic collections, designed by Levestam - Back to Nature, Dance with Druids and Jurassica - which brought international recognition for the company. Levestam has 257 jewelry designs registered in Ukraine.
In 2007, Levestam launched the landmark new collection called Crossing the Line, fusing fashion and conceptual art. The collection features outstanding jewelry items made from ancient bog oak and tin, using the unique technique of merging soft tin foil and hard wood. Levestam says: “The Language of Art is the only language through which I can speak seriously. I prefer to work in wood because of its plastic qualities. Wood is a living material.”
