Artist Statement for Louise Hall

Louise is a working artist, currently registered for an exhibition-based PhD at the Centre for Visual Art, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, having completed her Masters in Fine Art cum lade at the same institution in 2007.

Louise’s work, mainly painting and drawing, is figurative and explores the human condition of transition and impermanence. She considers her large paintings to be like giant drawings and is presently interested in the role of drawing as a regenerative and reflective component in art making.

Louise has art teaching experience at high school, university and adult education levels. She is an experienced facilitator, having worked in the organisational and development facilitation contexts. She was a founder member of DWEBA, an NGO that worked with rural craftswomen and developed a participatory training methodology using drawing as a central component. This methodology was published as a resource guide in 2001 entitled, “Drawing Our Lives”.
