Artist Statement:
In my work I combine images of human and other organic forms. I prefer to use mixed media because of the contrast and spontaneity that is achieved. According to Duane and Sarah Preble, authors of Artforms, "Picasso is alleged to have said that he could always draw like Michelangelo, but it took him years to draw like a child." While I previously only valued the realistic depiction of objects, I now approach my art more openly allowing my work to demonstrate undaunted expression much like that demonstrated in the art of children. Tapping into the enthusiasm, passion and instinctual spontaneity that children exhibit when creating art has set me on an exciting and inspirational journey of creative rediscovery.
