| Your Personal Biography |
Emmanuel Mallo (FC Mallo) is a self thought prolific artist living in New York. His unique mixed media art utilizing a broad spectrum of media to create his art is nothing short of stunning. His compositions spans from wood, barks of trees, fiber, metal, silver, plastic, tissue, grains and paint. He skillfully blends these materials into great art; be it portraiture, steel life or abstract. The point is, his finished work will keep you thinking. Oh! pictures do no justice to his original work.
FC Mallo combines abstract and portraiture to create art that meets the needs of creativity, history, emotion, beauty and healing. Armed with multiple abstract painting styles Mallo’s portraits are not just life images, they are intense, highly informative and spiritually uplifting.
FC Mallo brings to life the memories of the personality on the portrait; the background is intensively worked in abstract using colors the person loves the most, important things relating to the person’s life and the type of environment the person will desire to be in to sense some peace.
FC Mallo does his portraits this way to render them more than just portraits but to provide them mind, body and soul healing and relaxation tools, especially when they are commission works. Every single portrait is sanctified and blessed to provide positive energy where ever it finds itself.
How FC Mallo Discovered His Art Skill
I never discovered the skill until in my early thirties when I was homeless and moving from country to country. In an effort to survive in the streets thousands of miles from home I learned how to cut hair using a comb and a blade. I secured a long bench in a smelling open village fish market in Dakar Senegal where I spent my days and nights. I also wanted to use the bench to cut hair for a few coins to get food and water for the day. The bad news was I never had a sign post to indicate that I was available for hair cut.So I got charcoal, white chalk and red clay, mixed them separately with a little bit of glue. I also searched in the market dumpsters and secure an old canvas on which I painted two heads, a comb and a brush. The images were horrible but people could make meaning out of them. In a week I made some money and bought paint to make a better sign post. The images were horrible as well but better than the first one I did.
A paint artist who lived nearby was attracted to my sign post and came to chat with me. He told me I had a gift of art which I could exploit. I never took him seriously, but he kept on coming to back to me encouraging me to do something. I was more interested in figuring out what I was to eat day after day. But one day some friends told me I had nothing to loose trying what the artist told me. First of all Senegal promotes art and art is very popular in that part of Africa
I thought for a week and decided to try something. I did not have money so I used natural materials such as sand, barks of trees, Fiber, glue and a few colors to produce pieces of art. The more I did it the more I got appreciation from people. I was motivated to save some money to buy paint but I used old cloths to make my canvases. Progressively I mastered the art of color blending and separation, forms, shedding and the study of images.
I began coordinate my imaginations, inspiration, dreams etc into a creative focus. I began creating images out of my thoughts and transferred them on canvas. I can still remember when I prepared my first canvas for a portrait. I was scared that I will not be able to do it. I never finished the portrait but I think it is great, it was my own portrait. I do not think I will ever get it finished. That portrait motivated me to carefully study human anatomy. I transferred that study unto canvas each time I painted.
I finally had my first exhibition in 2003 at the gallery of the daughter of the Abdou Diof the former president of Senegal. Since I never had the luxury to have a master who could teach me but I self schooled and this gives the reason why I paint portraits with precision and my style is unique.
However I give thanks to the one who created me because I spent years in the streets driftign from country to country living through dumpster diving. He gave me the opportunity to learn lessons that help me today to appreciate life and to help other human beings through my art and other ways. |
