Why Did You Become An Artist I became an Artist because, I feel its my calling, I saw it is the most unusual and hardest occupation to succeed at! I love all the challenges in being an Artist. I love a good stimulating challenge, it's a life experience every day and you must be tough, but at the same time be sensitive and balanced in Mind , Body and Spirit. You must wear several hats: designer, hands on carver, finisher, marketing man and Salesman. A delicate balance, in realm of being an introvert and extrovert...

Your Personal Biography My name is Sean dePasquale McKibbin aka dePasquale Sculptures and I've been a professional sculptor for 25 years. Nonetheless, I started my creative fervor back in grade school with drawing, ceramics and jewelry. Soon after my explorations in high school, I went to Appalachian State University to pursue Industrial Education and Technology. They are ranked second in the nation.I also received a degree in Fine Art, where I explored the extraordinary art of stone sculpture. I did instructional assistance in leather and ceramics department in the I.E.T school, under the supervision of Eric Reichard. It is of tremendous joy to help a person wanting to explore their creative being. My senior year I was asked to compete in the senior art show, ART EXPO 84, forty five art majors entered. They awarded me Best of Show.I have been the only non Art major to ever win the Senior art show in the history of Appalaichaian State University. What was so ironic is that I was and Industrial Art student, they were thought to have no creativity, by the Art school professors. I received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education and Technology and a minor in Fine Art(Stone Sculpture)
In college I was exposed to the basic tools in stone sculpture. It was not until I was out on my own, in the art world that I designed, carved, and sold hundreds of sculptures ranging from marine life, wildlife, abstract, and figurative sculptures to a wide array of collectors throughout the United States. I've had numerous one man shows as well as group shows, from the east coast to the west coast and the fiftieth state of Hawaii, my hometown for eighteen I've sold 90% of my sculptures, 10% by galleries (i.e. Wylands in Haleiwa, Hawaii; Sea Fantasies in Newport Beach; Manoa Gallery, Hawaii; and International Art Gallery, Hawaii). I found that in the art world, the best salesman is the artist himself. It's a far cry from the creative making of a sculpture, but it has its own innovative realm in itself. 'Each stone, I feel, has an identity to be unveiled, and I sum it up in a poem I wrote':
To take the stone, and see its own, unique shape within, and chipping away and revealing its display of fine lines that slowly combine... finally sanding by hand, till the surface comes to one, and finally polishing, bringing to life the image longing to be discovered.
My focus is designing and carving one of a kind originals, one on one sales, utilizing materials like: granite, marble, alabaster, wood, bronze, and multimedia, i.e. marble and wood. I do commissions and sculpture demonstrations as well! Also architectural carving i.e. fireplaces, fountains and exterior wall reliefs on buildings.I also do function based Sculptures: Chairs, artistic fountains, clocks and wearable art: dolphin rings in gold and silver and heart pendants in Australin opal, Lapis Lazuli etc.
“Human form, marine, and wildlife sculptures are extremely demanding because there are so many complex curves that must harmonize in order to achieve proper proportions.” His passion for marine life comes from his upbringing, 15 years in Hawaii, where snorkeling, body surfing, windsurfing, and scuba diving was a way of life. He enjoys creating the abstract sculptures as there are no set guidelines. They express the artist’s interpretation of line and form in three-dimensional poetic imagery. “Sculpting these various images in the cold, hard, unrelenting stone immediately instills a warm, soft excitement of life.”

THE PROCESS . . .
To take the stone…
To see its own…
Unique shape within!
Then carefully chipping away
And revealing its display
Of fine lines that slowly combine.
Then, sand by hand,
Till the surface comes to one,
And finally, polishing!
Bringing to life the image,
Longing to be discovered…

Artist Statement My name is Sean dePasquale McKibbin also known as dePasquale Sculptures and I've been a professional sculptor for 31 years.I love the many challenges of stone sculpture whether it be marble, granite, alabaster, onyx marble, rose quartz or petrified wood. In order to work with different stones you must obey and respect their inherent characteristics and properties. Commissioned work is welcomed.I usually sculpt that which I feel the world wants to see and acquire... Limited edition bronzes from some of my original sculptures are available. I love carving wood as well! Please visit www.you tube.com/user/depasqualesculptures , I have seven informative sculpture videos, for you to see !
Nature has so many different, intriguing forms, that offer a vast array of subject matter, for my designs. I constantly push the limits of each material in a scenario which I call "daring" myself. I'll manifest a design and choose a material suitable, then say, this is not possible! Then I will say I dare you...and proceed with severe focus! These particular sculptures are extremely nerve racking to complete, but are such a thrill. Each sculpture is designed with very select contour lines, every centimeter counts,(parts of the whole), the sculpture must flow and capture a Moment and Movement, in time.
The embodiment of nature and all its manifestation exudes my design process, there are endless possibilities! Designing, carving, finishing, then the arduous task of selling makes the challenging experience of stone sculpture the rewarding journey I have chosen to fulfill.
The art of stone sculpture goes back to the beginning of mankind. It is the subtractive process of elimination. You must remove that which is superfluous to the form itself! You must be able to put yourself within the confines of the sculpture ( be the form itself) so you know where to stop, on the out side skin of the piece, when looking at the form, from the outside with chisel and hammer in hand! The only way I can explain it is: it's an inner and outer body experience...
This poem I wrote sums it up!
