Artist Statement:
Marcelo’s paintings have been
influenced by the work of
Abstract Expressionist and
Impressionist artists. They
show feelings, emotions,
spontaneity, and creativity
released as a reflection of
both his conscious and
unconscious psyche—sometimes
from a mystical view. He
values artistic freedom and
improvisation. While Marcelo
often begins painting with
some ideas in mind, he never
knows what the final outcome
will be until the work is
completed. His process of
creation is quite free and he
discovers the true essence of
each painting as he goes
along. His main goal is to
provide a subtle expression of
what he feels or thinks about
events, people, issues, or
himself. Even when depicting
images based on visual
realities, the imagery is
always abstract. He uses the
energy and expressive
potential of color in a
dynamic balance to convey a
range of thoughts and
emotions: intelligence,
kindness, serenity, happiness,
sadness, order, chaos, etc; a
peculiar language that speaks
about some of the important
themes of our lives. In
essence, his paintings talk to
us about the psychological and
moral attitudes that unfold
around us. ...
