Artist Statement:
My work is the fruit of who I am. Does not matter if I like it or not, I am an artist.
It comes from an intrinsic need to "create" something. I create an image and call
that the essence of my soul and allege that it is just enough to explain everything
else in my whole life. Now at this stage of my existence, I am far away from the time
when these things may caused me embarrassment.
What?
An artist?
What do you mean by that?
I mean an artist, just an artist
It is simple like that.

Maria Teles Parenteau
Maria is a native Brazilian who chose to follow her dreams to America after completing schooling at the French Art Academy in Brasilia, Brazil. Maria focused on drawing originally but than chose to pursue techniques in acrylic, oil, watercolor and pastel painting as well as a variety of crafts as she became immersed in the American culture. Her travels led her to Boston, where she was elected as a member of the Cambridge Art Association. Soon after that, she began dedicating time to the teaching of arts to children of all ages, then Maria went on to what she considers her most rewarding experience in teaching, instructing troubled teenagers placed in a state run secure detention facility. Maria currently resides in San Diego with her husband and is dedicating all of her time to further developing her talents. She is currently completing a series of paintings that was started 16 years ago named, “Birds, Just Birds”, a collection which plays on the imagery of birds representing life situations, dreams and hidden secrets. |
