Artist Statement for Martha Bryce

Originally from Amelia Island, Florida, I graduated from the University of South Carolina. While living in the Caribbean in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands I became captivated by the lush landscapes and dramatic color changes. The beauty of the islands became the inspiration for my paintings.

Influenced by the colors of nature, I use vivid colors and expressive brushwork, combined with the play of light and shadows, to create the mood and drama in my paintings. My paintings are primarily in oils and my subjects include still life, architecture, landscapes and seascapes as well as some abstracts. I have taken various classes and workshops to enhance my paintings with different styles.

My primary residence is in Ajijic, Mexico where opportunities abound for new and different paintings. I am an exhibiting member of the Ajijic Society of Arts, Lake Chapala painting Guild and the Charleston Artist Guild in South Carolina.
