Artist Statement:
The oil paintings shown in
this portfolio are part of
what I loosely refer to as the
Earth and Sky series. I am
interested in painting birds,
feathers, bones, and
landscapes that represent both
the past and future, with the
artist and viewer standing on
the thin line in between. In
2007 I was privileged to be
Artist in Residence at Mesa
Verde National Park in
southwestern Colorado. There
I had the great opportunity to
experience the landscape of an
ancient people and learn about
the legends and symbols that
guided their lives. I
continue to pursue this study
in my current paintings and
through this study am slowly
finding a way to comment upon
the current and future state
of our modern world.
I am a fulltime artist and
maintain a studio outside my
home in Fort Collins,
Colorado. After having worked
primarily in watercolor for
most of my life I have
recently taken up oil painting
and have found that it gives
me the opportunity to work
with purpose and intention as
well as being a lot of fun.

| Your Personal Biography |
Mary Harnett is a Fine Artist, a painter, who works and maintains a studio in
Ft. Collins, Colorado. Mary’s formal artistic training started as a teenager at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco; she holds a B.F.A. in Drawing & Painting from the California College of Arts & Crafts and a M.S. M. from Regis University. For the past four years she has had the privilege of being a full time artist. Her career has included stints as a technical illustrator, an archaeologist, a land surveyor, a civil design engineer, and land manager. These experiences have been the inspiration and driving force for her paintings and drawings throughout her life.
She is a skilled watercolorist and has been studying oil painting for the past four years. Her work is represented in public and private collections in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and New York. She teaches watercolor painting to adults, volunteers teaching art in the 8th Judicial District Juvenile Drug Court, and is the former Director of the Colorado Coalition of Artists (2006), a non-profit artists’ coop in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She currently shows her work in galleries in Fort Collins & Loveland Colorado as well as on the World Wide Web, has released 8 Limited Edition Prints in the past two years, and is pursuing painting as a full time, sustaining career.
