Artist Statement:
Mary Lou Springstead was born
and raised in Brooksville,
Florida and has been making
art since she was a child.
She mixes premodern and
contemporary symbols to create
a counter narrative to the
dominant corporate culture. ML
attempts to create the sacred
from the non-sacred. Her
mediums range from acrylic,
oil and watercolor to digital
applications, photography and
mixed media. She received her
BA in Studio Art from Rollins
College, Winter Park, Florida
(1992). In 1996 she graduated
from Florida State University
in Tallahassee with her
Master's degree in Art
Therapy. ML is currently
attending Teesside University
in Middlesbrough, England
working on her Master's degree
in Future Design.
