Artist Statement:
Images of domestic comfort in
my oil paintings are intended
to lure the viewer into
familiar environments either
real or imagined. I am
particularly inspired by
discrepancies between mood and
setting and the use of
decoration as distraction.

The tension that develops in
these environments is often
between aspiration and
reality. This derives, in

investing objects with emotion
are ultimately disappointing.
Ornamentation is a quick fix

meet deep needs for
contentment.

Finally, though, it is
awareness of both our desire
for comfort and beauty and our
acknowledgement of the
inadequacy of achieving these
goals on a purely material
plane that chart the way out.
