Artist Statement:
Art is a way of looking at life. I see art as science's significant other: while science is caught up in facts and formulas, art is in tune with feelings and abstract ideas. Art reveals the side of life that science cannot reach. Therefore artists and their art are just as important as scientists and their scientific theories.
I've considered myself an artist from the very moment I first drew George Washington's smiley face, stick body, and curly hair on the back cover of my Mickey Mouse coloring book. (I thought it was a masterpiece, and coated it with water several times, hoping that would preserve it.) Although I have had doubts about my ability, I have finally realized that I interpret and internalize every part of life artistically. I think in poetry, feel the pulse of paint, sleep with a notebook next to my head, and sketch things I see (outside my windshield or in my mind) while driving. I know I have things to say to the world, and art (including painting, drawing, photography, poetry, etc.) is my way of conveying the message best....
