Artist Statement for Melody Phaneuf
|
|
|
My paintings are expressive compositions arranged to evoke an emotion or communicate an idea. I love the color and pattern revealed by light and shadow, and seek pleasing combinations that support the theme of the painting.
I often draw inspiration from something I’m reading or from music heard, but just as often it is from something seen, perhaps the way light transforms an ordinary object into something of great beauty. I embrace the way objects can symbolize concepts, and I engage this potential to develop layers of meaning in my paintings.

Phaneuf is an award-winning artist, well known for her evocative still life, landscape, and portrait paintings. She has exhibited at The National Arts Club in New York City, Galerie Herouet in Paris, and with Art du Monde, in Japan. Phaneuf is represented by The Guild of Boston Artists in Boston, MA; North Shore Arts in Gloucester, MA; and Patricia Hutton Galleries in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
Phaneuf maintains a studio at Fenway Studios in Boston, where she paints and holds workshops continuing the Boston School lineage.
