Artist Statement:
I specialize in painting miniature oil paintings. My subjects range from landscape to portraits and everything in between. My work is small enough to fit into the average dollhouse. Of course these paintings are intended for the above average dollhouse, but you don't need a dollhouse to display my tiny jewels. They each have their own easel (which I make myself), so you can display them anywhere. Every painting is a one of a kind original.
I get my ideas from the world around me. I love the wilderness and go camping alot. I love plants and animals and I think above all I love people and their many different faces and shapes. I am also a huge fan of figure drawing and have a large selection of nudes for sale.
People ask me all the time if I ever paint big. My answer is yes, I do paint larger occasionally. Most of my full size work is done on commission and many of those are portraits but sometimes I will do a very large landscape. I have even done a few murals! You have to keep challenging yourself. I also teach miniature oil paintings workshops and weekly art ...

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I was always an artist. The moment I could pick up a pencil, I was drawing. I didn't think I was any better at it than anyone else but I did it because it was fun. Later, I met teachers who taught me how to develop my skills and start impressing the world. I also learned about what "Art" was and how to be more creative. At first I had a hard time calling myself "Artist", I was more comfortable with "Art Student". When I started to sell my work I had to recognize that, yes, I am an Artist and I learned to embrace that identity. I do believe that all humans are artists and we each have a different and special way of expressing it. There is always room for more. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Barbara Stanton is a native Californian and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life. Specializing in miniature oil paintings and portraits (miniature and full size) her charming landscapes, still lifes and portraits are done in a very traditional, realist style. Her superb use of color and light make each piece glow. The precisely detailed compositions, some no larger than a postage stamp, call out to the viewer to step nearer and explore them more closely, to feel the moment.
Barbara's work has found it's way into collections around the world. Miniature collectors are her biggest fans because she paints in the popular dollhouse scale 1/12 (one inch equals a foot) and they fit just right in their fine miniature collections.
Painting for more than thirty years now, Barbara has mastered her technique and continues to seek new challenges. She is an IGMA Fellow (International Guild of Miniature Artisans). She is also an art instructor and is available for demonstrations and workshops. She has taught twice at the annual IGMA Guild School in Castine, Maine (2001 & 2003). Barbara is very active in her local communtiy and runs a figure drawing workshop every Fri. as well a being the Gallery Director for the Livermore Art Association Gallery.
