It’s simply the magic of life to discover the secrets around me. I could play with fine attunes of my perception and use my creativity. The product of it is an act that is incomparable emotion and divine touch that takes me to the abysm of essences, followed by inexpressible harmony and difference between me – The observer and the author – The Creator. The place where the real image of the photographer starts is followed by those important pieces that tell us all the stories about passed actions and life. This is how one observer could overall into a creator and this feeling convinced me into my individuality, whatever in that time my existence is into shapes. That’s the unreality giving warmth to my senses.
Looking deeply in the fragments of abandoned or temporary free of human presence objects, we can easily start conversation with the human spirit, with the civilization, with ourselves, to "transfer" to different visual or cognitive dimensions. |

THE PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE The concept of the
photos I present is to enhance the perception of three-dimensionality
in an otherwise two-dimensional photographic image.
I achieve this through multiple exposures of a single subject
matter on one negative, with slight changes of the camera,
lens, and focus distance. To enhance tonal range, I change the
filters in front of the lens for each exposure.
Focus extends through the entire print, which gives a homogeneity
and completeness.
Ultimately, a new reality results where all perspective laws
have been maintained, and the rhythm enhances the illusion
of depth. The final result is completed within the camera and
on a single piece of film during the photographing rather than
using the darkroom to manipulate the images.
Roll film is developed manually, with a very dilute developer
for an extended time to tame the contrast range, an inherent
problem with repeated exposures. Printing is on silver
halide paper in the traditional way. My goal as a photographer
is largely to relate to the past. These are religious temples and
monuments from the Neolithic period through the period of
the Roman Empire and up to the fifteenth century. They have
been discovered both in my native Bulgaria and in the nearby
countries of Greece and Turkey, all places where I like to work.
The combination of place and technique allows me to add
elements of mysticism, mysteriousness, and spirituality to the
photographs. |

Milan Hristev was born in Plovdiv in 1963. Graduated the "Julius Fucik" School of Photography and Polygraphy in Sofia in 1985. Started his work as photographer in 1976. About 200 participations in group exhibitions and over 20 one-man shows. Holder of about 50 diplomas from national and international contests. Works in the field of applied and advertising photography.
