Artist Statement:
Painting for me is a means of creating, of experimenting and exploring different media. Having lived in the UK, US and India, I feel that my art is a blend of the East and the West and reflects my own individuality . Since I first delved into the world of art 20 years ago with a watercolor class in the US, I have evolved as an artist. I no longer stick to conventional methods and techniques that have been taught to me through the years but create whatever my mind has in store for me.
All of my paintings result from my ongoing inner search for spirituality. It is a path that began with yoga, meditation, subsequent lessons in Sanskrit and the philosophy of the Gita. I have not yet come close to attaining any true fulfillment in that area, but through my art, and in particular, what I convey - I am able to explore the many avenues of existence.
I divide my time between Bangalore - India, Stockport - England and California in the U.S.
My latest paintings are more abstract than others and question the idea of life itself, reincarnation and the future of this planet.

I love reading and sometimes find myself alternating between painting and writing. I am a published writer of short stories and newspaper articles.
I love travel and just don't get to see enough of the world. I am interested in helping the planet and through meditation I believe we can create a greater consciousness and enlist the help of the universe to better the planet that we take so much from. Afterall don't we want it to be here for our grandkids? |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Art per se came late into my life. My first love was languages and I leant foreign languages with ease and thought I would have a career using them.
I was always creative, whether it be with cooking, flower arranging, sewing or crafts but my painting was a hobby while the kids were growing up. I have taken workshops with many teachers, in batik, marble painting, Mysore painting and watercolours and oils.
Since the eldest left for college a few years ago I was able to spend more time on my art and now I am happy to say not only do I paint, and exhibit, I am also taking a degree course at the OCA in England. With this course I am able to learn about techniques, art history and writing. I think it was a natural progression, but I needed to be a mom first and that is something I loved. |
