| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
I really impressed by the genius of Picasso and his artistic integrity. Someday I would like to create a sculptural or visual piece that will impact an entire community like Guernica did.
I'm also drawn to the Impressionist artists and their ability to express themselves through strong composition and the use of light. I also love Degas' use of brush strokes in his work. I tend to use impasto techniques in my Acrylic work to show deliberate intent and focus of my composition. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I've been an artist since childhood and it's always been a part of my life and my career in some way. In the 90's my work was recognized by a local art broker in Portland, OR and she encouraged me to organize my first shows and offered to represent my work. I soon realized with her guidance that I need to take my art career more seriously so I left a state job to pursue a career in art. I'm really glad that I made that decision. I'm alot happier and it reflects in my work. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Michael Misha Kennedy was born in San Bernardino, CA on October, 29 1966. The home of the great Orange Bowl and the very first McDonald’s. Believe it, he played on the very first Ronald McDonald playground. From Rialto the family headed to beautiful San Diego where he grew up naturally on the beach surrounded by nearly perfect weather year around. His family background is an interesting potpouri; Mom’s side of the family is French, German and Choctaw Indian while his Dad is Irish, Spanish and Dutch.
Michael Misha Kennedy studied at the prestigious art department at University of Oregon specializing in Fine Art, Commercial Installation and Design. He began his art career at a very young age. Taking the opportunity as a child to paint on most anything from cards, walls, material to even Baskin Robbins Ice Cream tubs. So it wasn’t suprising to the family to see him pursue a professional career in the arts. While pursuing his BFA in Eugene, Michael entered several art competitions including the Mayor’s exhibit. Michael won an award for his pastel portrait titled 'Outlets'. This piece is currently owned by Steve Suss in Portland, Oregon. During the 80’s Michael’s work varied from Pencils to pastels while ocassionally working in watercolors, acrylics and oils. In producing his first works, Michael showed a predisposition to steer clear of following outlined theories for each of his mediums. Finding it necessary to be inventive and unencumbered, he created some theories of his own. Combining Impressionist values along with Modernist theories he wove a new design theory into his work.
Throughout the 90’s Michael worked on stage in theatrical productions as well as costume and set design. His love of Urban settings and the nightlife during this period of his life is evident in the work in the late 90’s and on. Brilliant colors, layering, urban in feeling, youthful, playful and multi dimensional makeup much of his work. During this time he developed new dimensional canvass work while putting together a commisioned piece. After figuring out the best products for mounting his canvasses he began earnestly using this multi-dimensional theory in building new pieces. Sometimes these canvasses highlight different styles, hues, placement in a piece. Or simply to accentuate an edge on a cubist/modernist Urban piece such as 'Redlight Morning'. His use of dimensional principals has brought him notoriety throughout the West Coast.
Michael has also shown in the Visual AIDS and Warhol Exhibits in New York City. Finding ways to express important aspects of each piece is always in the forefront of his work. 'I believe that a piece should be a visual feast. It should tell a story, even in the most simplistic way. Each masterpiece should draw the viewer in, question it’s arrangement, pattern and color composition. Sometimes these things are subtle, and are brought to realization in after thoughts by the viewer. Sometimes the smallest things can be the most beautiful'. This theory is evident in his work with the use of metallic washes that highlight work under different light situations. It can also be more evident by the use of his special glaze that he developed in 2000. This glaze gives the piece the effect of Italian tiles.
Michael Misha Kennedy’s work has been shown in galleries across the Nation in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Sacramento, New York and soon in both Carmel and San Francisco. The unusual composition of his work and the telling mastery of acrylics has set him in the limelight of current Neomod Masters. In 2003, He also imortalized his movie icon Elizabeth Taylor who adored the piece that was done for her. Since moving to Sacramento he has had several succesful Gallery shows, private shows and commissioned pieces. He has also expanded his business to include Broker Services for new and upcoming artists becoming Sacramento’s first Art Agent!
His current goals are to increase the number of venues for his represented artists and find a spot for his own gallery in a few years. His works can be found throughout the country and in several private and public collections.
In July of 2005, Michael suffered Periocarditis brought on by a silent absessed tooth infection. Unaware of the tooth infection it spread to his heart sack and put him into a coma for six weeks and four and half months in hospital care. Through tremendous community support, family and friends; Michael recovered and is back to painting and managing ArtSpaces in Sacramento. 'I’m very grateful and humbled by the support of the community and my fellow artists, the first thing I wanted to do was to return to my art.' His first show was in January, 2006 at Butch N Nellies’ part of the Second Saturday tour. He sold 1/2 of the show in the first night!
Michael is currently Sacramento’s only Art Agent and is currently representing over 20 National and local artist.
