Artist Statement for Michael Rose

In my early work I was focused on birds of prey. I was trying to communicate their majesty and strength. Now I am working on capturing the harmony and beauty of the Iowa landscape in Oils. I tend to identify with the Tonalist style of painting, concentrating on values and shapes more than color.
