| Your Personal Biography |
Myles was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland and started oil painting in his early teens.
He studied Life Drawing with the late George Collie R.H.I.A. and Sculpture in a noncurricular program at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Interupted by an engineering career, he revived his interest in creating artwork in the early ‘80’s, studying Batik and Ceramics as well as once more taking classes in painting with a Dublin studio, The High Loft Painting Group. He also took Life Drawing classes at Dun Laoire College of Art.
During the 1980’s, he regularly exhibited with the High Loft Group in Dublin and later, in a highly successful two-person show at the Davis Gallery in Dublin. He was also commissioned by Tennants Brewery to create 30 Pub Front paintings as part of a public relations and marketing campaign. In Ireland, he has sold over 60 paintings.
Since 1987, after taking up residence in Indianapolis, while continuing his engineering career, Myles has attended painting, drawing and raku pottery classes at the Indianapolis Art Center, Herron School of Art and Design (Saturday School), and Stutz Artspace and has continued painting in watercolor, acrylic and oils. In Indianapolis, in 2000, he exhibited in a group show, with great success. He has also experimented with creating digital art.
Currently, Myles takes two oil painting classes, under the guidance of Jerry Points, and Susan Mauck at the Stutzartspace in downtown Indianapolis. He also attends Life Drawing and Painting sessions at the Stutz.
With a newly discovered interest in plein air painting, in spring 2008, he joined Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA), and has participated in Paint-Outs at New Harmony First Blush of Spring 2008 (Honorable Mention), at two T.C. Steele one day events, Crawfordsville Paint-Out and at the Zionsville Sullivan-Munce summer Paint-Out (Third Place)
Myles traveled to Ireland in August 2008 and participated in a one week plein air painting workshop at The Burren Painting Centre, Lisdoonvara, County Clare, under the tutorship of Frank Sanford. |
