Artist Statement:
Life is full of Color!!!
Those red hot moments when passion is all around you, you can taste what
life has to offer. When your heart pounds for the next moment.
This is where I am in life. I am finally coming into my own, really learning about myself. Loving myself has been a new and exciting experience, and because of all of this my art has been evolving.
Born and raised in the Bahamas I have been blessed with all the colors of the world. We are a colorful country and ever more colorful are our people. We have two different sides to our culture. First we are very religious, there is a church on every street corner, and we protest against everything sinful, everything on the surface is pretty and perfect. Secondly we are a culture with skeletons in our closets, our closets are plentiful and very full. And it leaves me in a very peculiar place because I paint nudes. I paint woman for the most part. I think women are incredible creatures. We have such big shoes to fill from being a mother, lover, caregiver, housekeeper, wife, friend and still have to work our 40 plus ...

| Your Personal Biography |
NICOLE COLLIE, 36 - Born and raised in the Bahamas, Nicole can’t
tell you exactly when she began her love affair with art, only that it is
an affair of the heart. The deep connection Nicole feels with her own
womanhood has inspired many of her paintings that may to some
convey simply sensuality, she wants it to be a tribute to the soft side
of a strong woman. “My message in life is for women. We need to
love ourselves…we are expected to do so much and to always keep
it together.”
Nicole has been showing her work for the past 7 years and has
booked galleries in the Bahamas and Los Angeles. She has a
plethora of clients who have small collections of her work and has a
number of pieces displayed in posh Bahamian resorts. Her favorite
medium is acrylic and she is constantly experimenting with new ways
to put colorful bursts of paint on canvas.
For as long as she can remember she has been painting. At an early
age Nicole used her artwork as a way of not only expressing herself,
but also as an escape from the sometimes frustrating realities of
growing up. Her early paintings were of landscape and flowers and
later the landscape of the human body. Having recently sold her
gallery in Nassau, in addition to her work. Nicole represents other
artists and coordinates gallery events. She currently lives in
Memphis with her son, 8 year old Brandon, and is looking forward to
becoming immersed in the cultural art scene in the city.
