Artist's Statement
I am intrigued by the universality of symbols, the sacred, religions, spirituality - this is my image language! I know that I am connected to the whole and my art is part of my ritual in search for meaning and belonging.
Resonating with the timeless Andean textural palette, I use - gauze, burlap, rope and sand to form my compositions, I reduce these textures to raw structures before bringing my colors to life by layers. My textures appear out of tactile memories: colors smells, fellings, prayers and emotions, offerings, rituals and secrets …. like poetry and dreams.
My work has been deeply enriched by my awareness of my heritage. I am Peruvian and Italian, French and West Indian – After fifteen years of living in North America I went back to my golden light of arid coastal Peru, where I grew up seeing the blue-purple-silver and yellow-orange-gold metallic colors of sand vibrating in my mind.
