Perhaps, there is hardly one modern painter who has never in his creative life had anything to do with such a complicated direction as accidentialization, i.e. the escape from the object. Omar Chkhaidze took this direction at the break of the centuries, in the beginning of the third millennium. At the end of the 90’s he changes his painting manner and style. Such a sharp turn from his attachment to the object, shape, to the absolute painting freedom is explained by the artist very simply: they started to hinder his way of seeing the spiritual world of the Universe.
He is certain that this is Love that forms the basis of the Universe. Love to the Creator, freedom, world, people and nature. Omar disagrees with the statement put by the Russian writer Dostoevsky back in the 19th century: “Beauty will save the world”. He believes that the world will be saved by love and enlightenment.
The artist’s road from the biblical plots to metaphysics is logical and quite reasonable. This was much spoken about by the theoreticians way back in the last century. The Henri Bergson’s method of intuition and his doctrine of “élane vital” (“vital force”) as the basis of all that exists, comprehended solely by the intuition, were the philosophical justification of such an approach. Here we speak about exstraspiritual hidden human capabilities. Judging by Omar’s new works, he has got such capabilities. His escape from the object does not mean the denial of the world of reality, as was the feature of his predecessors – abstractionists. He is seeking for his own way of the world comprehension and remaking.
Omar is positive that the absence of the object in art is not only a special way of thinking, but an art language concealing in itself great capabilities for a creative activity. He expertly commands this art language.
His new metaphysical series are peculiar windows into the outer space, the universe – testify his unique vision of the world. They are colorful, polychromatic and possess a kind of bewitching power. I noticed that kids had always crowded around these works, and the kids’ comprehension is pure and ingenuous. They have not yet lost their congenital capabilities of disengaging. The adult audition’s attention to Omar Chkhaidze’s works is attracted by the fathomlessness, endlessness, depth, game of light and charming power of energies.
