Artist Statement:
I am drawn to the idea that we are made of stardust as is everything in our world and beyond and so we are all connected to all that is. As ancient art is bonded to the meaning of important facts of human life in their sacred places at that time, we are coupled to endless streams of man made images and wander through a world peppered by incidents and images we cannot comprehend any more than the vast unknowns of the ancient world. Sometimes it seems only the heart can best understand much of this or our response to our environment and so I feel expression of emotion key to my art and re-discovery of the inner heart. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
Patricia Peterson works in pastels, oils and watercolors and a variety of drawing media pursuing subjects for drawing and painting from life, en plein air as well as working from drawings noting her ideas, myths, dreams and photographs.
After graduating from Emily Carr University in Vancouver, Peterson studied at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, and in New York at Parsons School of Design Masters Painting Program as well as the New York Academy of Art. Study of portraiture was with Marvin Mattelson at the School of Visual Arts; subsequently at the Art Students League with Sherry Camhy, Ellen Eagle, Oldrich Teply, Michael Grimaldi, Sharon Sprung, Richard Pionk, and Ephraim Rubenstein. Figure modeling in clay is her current focus in Barney Hodes's studio at the Art Students League.
Peterson's drawings and paintings have been exhibited in New York City and Bedford, New York and in Jackson, Mississippi as well as Vancouver, Canada. Her artwork is in collections in the U.S., Britain and Canada. She lives in Manhattan where she also maintains her studio. |
