Artist Statement:
Life is precious; a series of events. Steve Lambert feels his photography is a way he can express the wonder and beauty of the natural world. Steve's digital photography is a combination of nature and wildlife, with traces of architecture. His camera captures the beauty of the life around him, as well as the ecosystems that animals call their habitat. He likes to point his audience to the play of sunlight and shade on the trees, leaves, and blossoms. His camera captures patterns in nature, as well as its chaos. His technique includes use of vanishing point, backlighting of special subjects such as blossoms, macrophotography, sillhoetting, and controlling depth of field. He has done studies on water in nature, waterfowl, wildflowers, insects, serene places in nature, and patterns in nature. He has exhibited at local venues, including the Becker Gallery in Westerville, Ohio....

Hiking and skinning my knees on slippery rocks in the middle of streams is up at the top of my list of things I do. I love woodwork, traveling to new places, building houses of sustainable and green value. Of course, photography is at the top of my list. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I believe I became an artist as a form of storytelling; of letting an image tell a story without having to say anything. My art is about seeing the unique, the essence or spirit of a subject. It is always art for art's sake. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Photography has been an integral part of my growing up. In high school, I was lucky enough to have a boss at our local public library that had a passion for photography. I would practice on other people's SLRs, until my graduation, when I got my first Nikon F series SLR. I was fortunate to be surrounded by books on nature photography, so I practiced. The cost of film and developing almost discouraged me from maturing in this art, especially when in college.
Digital Photography has been a freeing force for me in many ways. It is not unusual for me to take a thousand pictures on my digital in a three day period, as I walk through the local metro parks/woods/college campus/etc. I am always noticing something new, and I like to practice capturing the essence of it.
I love to combine this passion for photography with my interest in responsible ecology, hoping my art will encourage responsible stewardship of our natural habitats. I believe I can make a difference locally by treading lighter on the earth....maybe not using as much fossil fuel...and learning better forestry management techniques/sustainable building practices.
I like to use light and depth of field practices to define my subjects. I occasionally use human subjects for social commentary/symbolism, but most of the time it is nature and wildlife. Thank-you for taking the time to view my art.
