| Your Personal Biography |
Upon emigrating to New York in the 1960s she continued her painting, etching and specialized studies, while working as an Art Teacher for the New York City Board of Education. In the late 1970s, she was among the first artists to purchase a loft space in an industrial building and convert it into a living/work space for artists in New York’s burgeoning Soho –Noho area. Having experiences the ignorance of galleries that told her that they did not represent Latin American artists or later those that said that Argentine aesthetics was too European to be consider Latin Art, Pineiro converted the majority of her four thousand (4000) square foot loft into the first private gallery specializing in South American Art. Under Pineiro’s vision Arch Gallery flourish for twenty years, during which time a myriad array of emerging and established Latin American artists found a forum to showcase their work. The space was a beacon for multi-disciplinary activities; Literary presentations, tertulias, performances, roundtable-discussions, press conferences, fundraisers and community meetings complimented the monthly visual arts program.
Arch Gallery was in the forefront, nurturing the emergence of the Latino Art Movement in the 1980s and 1990s. Pineiro was an artist whose quite dedication to providing access to her colleagues, transformed her into a leader whose private contributions nurtured a cultural era.
