Artist Statement:
My work is an investigation
into systems of time,
religion, and history, and how
these systems are constructed
and interpreted as a function
of culture. Central to the
work is the role of the
individual as both creator and
prisoner of this cultural
iconography. This is expressed
through my use of the figure
as drawn from various points
in history.
Of special concern is the idea
of folklore and how folklore
is a combination of both fact
and popular fiction. To
explore this phenomenon I have
been creating my own folkloric
system which combines elements
of history and religion,
assembled through a series of
symbolic references. These
references can be read in a
number of ways and thus
suggest individualized
interpretations and
narratives....
